WHAT IS PRICKLY PEAR SEED OIL?

Prickly pear seed oil (A.K.A: Barbary Fig Seed Oil / Prickly Pear Oil, Cactus Seed Oil…) is the hottest new face serum on the block. Used alone or blended, it’s an extremely pure ingredient. There’s even claims, that it’s the “ultimate” – in beauty oils! The new, better, argan oil!

Consistency wise, it’s a light oil, easily absorbed, great for all skin-types (whether you’re a young buck or not, your skin will welcome this high caliber oil…)

BENEFITS OF PRICKLY PEAR SEED OIL

Prickly pear seed oil delivers because it’s got potent antioxidants that will soothe your face, help with signs of aging, and improve overall texture.

EXTRACTION METHODS:

Prickly pear seed oil requires a lot of time, work and elbow grease to produce. One liter takes about 4 days to produce- a process that involves harvesting and drying the tiny seeds.

It’s a resilient plant for farmers to harvest though since its a cactus, it can survive insane droughts (the same kind of droughts that have been giving argan trees one heck of a beating lately.)

PRICKLY PEAR SEED OIL = NEW FACE SERUM

This oil holds a secret beauty ingredient called: betalains (yellowish/red indol-derived pigments that you can find in certain plants including cactus’s.) Betalains are one of the most powerful super-antioxidants on the planet- more easily explained a wrinkle buster!

Start using a good prickly pear seed oil to help get your faces elasticity back (even after a few days of use, I noticed a difference!) For any woman who has concerns about wrinkles, you’ll be so very happy this oil is now becoming more readily available (since approx. 2007…) and starting to appear in all-natural beauty products.

One downside, this amazing oil doesn’t come cheap but it’s worth every penny. I purchased my 30ml bottle for $35USD- not bad since I’ve seen some companies charge up to $100 dollars for 30ml. For this reason I make my own prickly pear seed oil serums, lotions, and potions to save my wallet and my face…

Prickly Pear Seed Oil Recipes

Tried to find a good DIY Prickly Pear Seed Oil Serum recipe online… Honestly, I was stunned to find very little! So, I’m going to include 2 different serum recipes I’ve created and have been using:

ANTI-AGING FACE SERUM

Directions:

Apply several drops on your face before bed/in the morning and allow a few minutes for the oil to completely absorb into the skin. A great face serum also work as an awesome makeup primer cause it gives your makeup something to stink on to.

Benefits:

Jojoba oil is one of the most easily absorbed by the skin cause its the closest thing to your skins natural oil (sebum.) Geranium and lavender essential oils have for centuries been used by woman to repair skin. Mixing these 3 natural ingredients with a high quality prickly pear oil will be your new anti-aging arsenal for years to come.

UNDER-EYE BRIGHTENING SERUM

Directions:

Before bed, drop a few drops on your finger and gently apply it around your eye (get those blasted crows-feet too!) Obviously don’t get it in your eyes please… A little goes a long way with this serum

Benefits:

I chose rose-hip carrier oil because it’s a known anti-inflammatory and has the effect to rejuvenate skin, help with swelling, inflammation and bolster capillaries.Anyone with under eye wrinkles, circles, swelling- this will be a warm welcome that has the ability to replace all your other expensive high end treatments.

    • Not surprised you know about this oil too 😉 You totally should, all the face serums I found for it online were $100+ (INSANE!) I’d love to be able to buy one that doesn’t break the bank lol That’s why I went the DIY route instead… Angie xo

Love this oil. Is it okay to mix it with other oils? For example, geranium, rosehip,, and frankincense? Also, can I use it with myrrh and neroli? I am using olive oil as a carrier.

    • You can certainly mix “essential oils” like neroli, myrrh, geranium or frankincense with prickly pear seed oil. Adding a neroli based “hydrosol” I probably wouldn’t, cause they won’t mix well. As for “carrier oils” – rosehip, argan, or jojoba are great options and good on all skintypes for anti-aging as well 🙂 Hope this helps! THANKS FOR READING 🙂

I use pure prickly pear seed oil on my face everyday. I LOVE it. I get it from Eden’s Garden online. Great price too. Curious if you have tried it and wonder what you think of the quality.

    • Never tried it from Eden’s Garden… I got mine from a local shop in Ottawa, ON – CANADA called Planet Botanix. I did get some on Ebay a few years back but the quality was lacking for sure. I got a great sample of some though from a company called COSMIC ELEMENT. I’d recommend that brand no problem (sold on Amazon…) Thanks for your comment! I love this oil too – it never fails on my face 🙂
