DIY Pumpkin Spice Lotion
Pumpkin Spice Lotion
No season is more fun than Halloween: candies, costumes, skulls- I’m a die hard! To celebrate, I’m sharing my DIY Pumpkin Spice Lotion.
Full of natural skin-eats, including: pumpkin seed oil, cardamom/nutmeg/vanilla essential oils, cocoa butter, +more! My tried tested and true recipe is easy to make, the smell is beyond delicious and, you can feel safe feeding it to your skin!
DIY Pumpkin Spice Lotion Recipe:
Expires after 6 months. Safe for ages +13yrs. Store in cool place (is temperature fussy, so in extreme heat will melt to liquid…)
Materials – DIY Pumpkin Spice Lotion:
- Double-boiler
- Whisk
- Spatula
- Ceramic or glass bowl for mixing (no aluminum or plastic)
- Glass mason jars to store lotion
Ingredients – DIY Pumpkin Spice Lotion:
(*try to buy organic but it’s not a “must”)
- 90 grams Beeswax
- 170 grams Shea Butter
- 20 grams Cocoa Butter
- 1 cup Unrefined Coconut Oil
- ½ cup Carrier Oil of choice (I used fractionated coconut oil since it’s liquid + sweet almond oil)
- 2 tbsp Pumpkin Seed Oil
- Essential Oils (this is how you’ll get that spice smell!- but it’s not necessary)
- 25 drops Vanilla Essential Oil
- 10 drops Cardamom Essential Oil
- 5 drops Patchouli Essential Oil
- 5 drops Nutmeg Essential Oil
- 3 drops Cinnamon Essential Oil
Quick rundown of directions- cause following picture directions can be annoying sometimes…
Directions – DIY Pumpkin Spice Lotion:
- Using a kitchen scale, measure beeswax and transfer to prepared double-boiler. Over medium heat melt the beeswax until it’s a clear liquid.
- Measure cocoa butter, shea butter, and coconut oil; add to double-boiler. Continue heating over medium heat, occasionally stirring until liquid is again, 100% clear and melted.
- Pour in carrier oil mixture + pumpkin seed oil. Continue heating over medium heat for several more minutes.
- Transfer contents of double-boiler into a ceramic or glass bowl. Add essential oils now. Put bowl containing the hot liquid in the fridge for cooling. Every several minutes remove from the fridge to mix well with a whisk; always making sure to scrape the sides of the bowl with a spatula (this is important).
- Continue this mixing & cooling process for approx. 40 min. or until liquid is no longer clear, hot, and has become dense in consistency. Your final product will literally look like a whipped shiny butter.
- Transfer to mason jars and you’re done!

Little fact, I’m always proud to share my DIY recipes and advocate the use of essential oils in everyone’s home. But! I’m also quick to point out (to ensure my safety and yours) that I’ve taken and graduated from a year-long aromatherapy certification course.
I always recommend getting certified if you really want to practice + preach the whole DIY skincare switch. Playing around with essential oils is awesome – but dangerous (Pinterest is a prime example of many essential oil no-no’s.)
I’ve been making my own lotions and recipes for +10yrs and I’m still learning. Play safe AND don’t be shy! Ask me for advise, I’ll be stoked to shell it out, rather than see you blow-up your skin (cause trust me I’ve seen people do it – practice helps make perfect, but professional advise is ridiculously important)
Thanks for making it this far, reading my DIY Pumpkin Spice Lotion.
I have a slew of other DIY lotions, if you prefer other scents, ingredients or blends. Here’s a few:
